the article is called Imlohe and the mysteries of the Passismanua, Southwest New Guinea by Jane C. Goodale. The caption in the top right reads 'A group of visitors at a dance. Although recently pacified, no man would attend a ceremonial dance at a neighbouring village unarmed - without his spear and carved wooden shield'.
